Education Flooring

What it is

Education flooring is the durable, acoustically considered floor package installed in classrooms, lecture theatres, libraries, laboratories, corridors and student amenities across a school, TAFE or university campus. Premrest Flooring installs education flooring for education departments, independent schools, universities and their head contractors across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, programmed to term breaks and semester windows.

Campuses run on the academic calendar. Most flooring is replaced in the two-week term breaks or the long summer break, which puts a hard finish date on every job and often means several buildings at once. Products need to survive decades of student traffic, chairs and cleaning regimes, and laboratories, kitchens and wet areas bring their own hygiene and slip requirements.

What the sector demands

Constraints we plan around

Term-break windows

Whole buildings are replaced in a two-week break. Crews scale up and work in shifts so every classroom is back before students return.

Heavy wear

Chairs, bags and constant movement demand heavy-commercial carpet tile and thick-wear-layer LVT that hold up for a decade or more.

Acoustics

Learning spaces need floors that absorb sound. Cushion-backed carpet tile and acoustic underlays are specified where teaching happens.

Labs, kitchens and wet areas

Science labs, food technology rooms and amenities move to welded sheet vinyl and safety flooring.

How we deliver

From site walk to handover

01

Calendar programming

Buildings are scheduled into term breaks and summer with a written program shared with the school or campus team.

02

Pre-break preparation

Materials are delivered and staged and furniture logistics agreed before the break starts so install begins on day one.

03

Shift install

Crews work in shifts across multiple buildings so the whole program lands inside the break.

04

Handover before day one

Rooms are cleaned, inspected and released before students return, with warranties and product data supplied.

FAQs

Education flooring questions

Can you replace flooring across a whole school in the term break?

Yes. Buildings are programmed into the break with materials staged beforehand and crews working in shifts, so classrooms are back in use before students return.

What flooring works best in classrooms?

Heavy-commercial carpet tile with a cushion or acoustic backing is the usual choice for classrooms and libraries, with welded sheet vinyl in labs, art and food technology rooms and LVT in entries and student hubs.

How long does education flooring last?

Well-specified commercial carpet tile typically gives 10 to 15 years in a school and commercial sheet vinyl 15 to 20 years, subject to cleaning and maintenance regimes.

Do you provide warranties and product data for department records?

Yes. Manufacturer warranties, product data sheets, safety data sheets and installation records are supplied at handover for the school's or department's asset records.
