Aged Care
Flooring

What it is

Aged care flooring is commercial carpet tile, safety vinyl and related coverings specified and installed in occupied residential aged-care and retirement-living homes. Premrest Flooring stages those installs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane so residents stay on site: carpet tile in bedrooms and lounges, safety vinyl in wet or clinical rooms, bedrooms during the day and corridors after hours.

A Premrest sister site, Aged Care Flooring, covers the same vertical. This page is the aged-care flooring hub on Premrest Flooring: zone split, occupied-home method, and the specifier guides behind it.

How it is specified

Carpet, vinyl, staging, hygiene

Carpet tile in dry resident zones

Bedrooms, lounges, quiet corridors and admin. Acoustic dampening, fall cushioning and a residential feel. Moisture-impermeable backings so a contaminated tile can come up without opening the whole wing.

Safety vinyl in wet and clinical rooms

Bathrooms, ensuites, dining, kitchens, sluice rooms and medication stations. Heat-welded seams, coved skirting, and an AS 4586 P-rating matched to the zone — usually P4 in bathrooms, not the most aggressive wet rating in a bedroom.

Occupied-home sequence

One or two bedrooms at a time during the day. Corridors and lounges after hours, typically 21:00 to 05:30, with a full clean before morning care. No work through medication, meal or settling windows. Residents are shuffled within the facility, not relocated off-site.

Infection control and cleanability

Infection control here is a cleanability spec, not a lab claim: heat-welded vinyl trays in wet rooms, moisture-impermeable carpet-tile backings in dry rooms, and contaminated tiles or substrate lifted rather than mopped into seams. Low-odour, low-VOC adhesives are the default so residents can stay on the floor plate.

FAQs

Aged care flooring questions

What is aged care flooring?

Aged care flooring is the zone-based specification and occupied-home install of commercial floor coverings in residential aged-care and retirement living: carpet tile in dry resident rooms, safety vinyl wherever the floor gets wet, soiled or clinically cleaned, with staging so residents are not relocated off-site.

Can you install aged care flooring without relocating residents?

Yes. Most programs are staged in occupied homes: one or two bedrooms at a time during the day, corridors after hours, and no work through medication or meal windows. Residents are shuffled within the facility. Call 1300 207 915 for a wing-by-wing program written against your care routine.

Do you do aged care carpet installs and vinyl flooring?

Yes. Carpet tile in bedrooms, lounges and quiet corridors; heat-welded safety vinyl in bathrooms, ensuites, dining, kitchens and clinical rooms. Using one material everywhere is the specification that fails first.

Do you install aged care flooring in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane?

Yes. Premrest Flooring delivers aged care carpet installs and vinyl flooring from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, including occupied residential aged-care and retirement-living sites in each metro. Phone 1300 207 915 or send drawings to projects@premrest.com.au.

How does aged care flooring handle infection control and cleanability?

By zone. Wet and clinical rooms get heat-welded, coved safety vinyl so the floor can be clinically cleaned without holding soil in seams. Dry resident rooms get moisture-impermeable carpet tile so a contaminated tile comes up without opening the wing. If odour or soil has reached the subfloor, that section is replaced before new flooring goes down.
