Healthcare flooring is the hygienic, slip-rated and acoustically considered floor package installed in hospitals, clinics, medical centres, laboratories and aged care homes. Premrest Flooring installs healthcare flooring in live clinical environments across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, with welded sheet vinyl and coved skirtings in wet and clinical zones and carpet tile or cork-composite in dry patient and staff areas.
Healthcare floors have to be cleanable to infection-control standards, safe underfoot when wet and quiet enough not to disturb patients or residents. Most of the work is done in occupied buildings, so containment, dust control, low-odour adhesives and sequencing around clinical rounds are part of every program. Our aged care hub covers the occupied-home method in detail; this page covers the wider healthcare sector.

Constraints we plan around
Infection control
Welded seams, coved skirtings and impervious surfaces in clinical and wet zones so floors can be cleaned to protocol.
Occupied wards and homes
Work is staged room by room and wing by wing with containment, HEPA extraction and low-odour adhesives, and sequenced around care rounds.
Slip resistance
Wet-area and clinical flooring is specified to the slip classification the zone requires under AS 4586, with pendulum testing available to AS 4663.
Trolley and bed traffic
Corridors and treatment rooms take constant wheeled loads. Subfloor flatness and adhesive selection are matched to that traffic.
Healthcare flooring systems
Welded sheet vinyl
Heat-welded homogeneous or heterogeneous sheet vinyl with coved skirtings for wards, treatment rooms, corridors and wet areas.
Read more →Safety flooring
Slip-rated safety vinyl for bathrooms, ensuites, kitchens and utility rooms.
Carpet tile and cork-composite
Carpet tile in offices, lounges and dry resident zones, and cork-composite where acoustics and fall impact matter.

Moisture testing to AS 1884, levelling and moisture barriers so welded vinyl performs over the long term.

Clinical sequencing
The program is agreed with clinical and facility managers so bedrooms run during the day, corridors and shared spaces after-hours.
Containment and air quality
Grinding and levelling run under containment with HEPA extraction. Low-VOC adhesives are specified by default.
Zone-by-zone install
Each room or wing is uplifted, prepared, installed, welded and cured before patients or residents return.
Handover and compliance
Slip test results, product data, warranties and cleaning guidance are handed over with the completed zone.

What flooring is used in hospitals and clinics?
Heat-welded sheet vinyl with coved skirtings in wards, treatment rooms, corridors and wet areas, slip-rated safety vinyl in bathrooms and kitchens, and carpet tile or cork-composite in offices, lounges and dry patient zones.
Can flooring be replaced in an occupied ward or aged care home?
Yes. Work is staged room by room and wing by wing with containment and low-odour adhesives, bedrooms during the day and corridors after-hours, so patients and residents stay on site.
How do you meet slip-resistance requirements?
Products are selected to the slip classification each zone requires under AS 4586 and can be verified on site with pendulum testing to AS 4663, with results supplied at handover.
Why does moisture testing matter for welded vinyl?
Sheet vinyl is impervious, so any moisture in the slab has nowhere to go and can lift seams or cause adhesive failure. In-situ relative humidity testing to AS 1884 and a moisture barrier where required protect the installation.
